Most "retro" apps slap a filter on a photo after the fact. NeoCam is different: it shows you the dithered, pixel-art version of your shot in a live viewfinder, GPU-accelerated with Metal so the preview stays buttery smooth as you compose. What you see is exactly what you get. Dial in the look in real time with sliders for pixelation, dither strength, and exposure, then capture with the on-screen shutter, the volume buttons, the Action button, or even an AirPods stem.
Color is where NeoCam really comes alive. Ship with five built-in palettes — 1 Bit, 2 Bit, GamePal, Mermaid, and Hope — or craft your own with a full HSL / RGB / OKLCH color picker. Browse and install community palettes from the online gallery, then share your own creations back with a single tap.
With NeoCam Plus you can shoot live-dithered video — the retro look is baked into the recording as you shoot, not added later — complete with gritty 8-bit audio treatments. Plus also unlocks the photo-library importer, extra photo and video aspect ratios, watermark removal, and higher-quality export formats. Fully localized into 11 languages, with light/dark mode, portrait and landscape support, VoiceOver labels, a Control Center widget, and lock-screen capture. NeoCam brings the 80s to your iPhone.
> Grab logos, the app icon, screenshots, and more. Everything here is cleared for editorial use in coverage of NeoCam.
> Localized App Store screenshots, one archive per language. NeoCam ships fully localized in all 11 languages below.
A live dithered viewfinder shows the retro pixel-art version of your shot before you take it. GPU-accelerated with Metal, front/rear cameras, zoom presets, exposure compensation, and hardware-shutter capture.
Pixelate, Dither Strength, and Exposure sliders update the live preview instantly — no preview lag, no surprises. Adjust the mosaic scale and ordered-dither spread until it feels just right.
Five built-in palettes plus a full color-picker editor (HSL / RGB / OKLCH). Duplicate, reorder, and manage your own, browse and install community palettes online, and share yours back via deep links.
Shoot live-dithered video with the retro look baked in as you record. Swap palettes and tweak settings mid-shot, add NES-style 8-bit audio treatments, and save to a dedicated album in Photos.
Choose photo frames (Native 4:3, Square, 16:9, 2:1, 5:4, 3:2, Golden) and video frames (Native 16:9 or Square). WYSIWYG cropping across the viewfinder, saved shot, and editor.
Re-dither any saved photo with a new palette without losing the original, with live preview and in-place saves. Import existing library photos and run them through the full NeoCam pipeline.
Save to a dedicated album and share via the system share sheet — AirDrop, Messages, social apps, anywhere. Plus unlocks JPEG/PNG format choice, higher resolutions, and watermark removal.
A Control Center widget launches the camera instantly, and lock-screen capture lets you shoot dithered photos without unlocking — your palettes come along for the ride.

NeoCam Plus is an optional one-time, lifetime upgrade (US$5.99) that unlocks video recording, the photo-library importer, photo & video aspect ratios, watermark removal, higher-quality export formats and resolutions, and feature-request voting. Family Sharing is supported.

NeoCam is designed and built by Chad Etzel (@jazzychad), an independent developer with a soft spot for pixels and the aesthetics of early computing.
Chad is an independent software developer who builds indie apps and works as an iOS contractor for teams looking to ship polished, modern Apple-platform experiences. Previously, he spent five years at Apple on the Proactive Intelligence team, writing UI integrations across SpringBoard, Spotlight, the Lock Screen, and notifications. He’s been developing iOS apps since 2009 and has focused on Swift and SwiftUI since 2021. When he’s not coding, Chad can usually be found playing or listening to jazz. NeoCam grew out of a simple idea: what if the retro dithered look wasn't a filter you applied afterward, but something you could see and compose with live? The result is a camera that makes pixel-art photography feel immediate and playful.
